The horse just stopped. A number of years
ago, my father-in law told me the following story. They were trappers and loggers. Their home was about eight miles from any
other town or village. Many times, especially in the winter, people would get dropped off at their house and they would take
them by horse and slide to the next community. My father-in-law was around fifteen years old when he was asked to take a man
to another town. They took the horse and slide and he was ready to return back to his home around midnight. Everything was
going great until the horse stopped,in the middle of the road, beside a large tree. My father-in-law was scared because this
was the same place where a man had been killed. He was returning from a tavern to his cabin and somehow got his head caught
between the slide and the tree. When they found the man he was dead. Also, the horse had belonged to the man who was killed.
