Newfie or Newf are terms that many Newfoundlanders accept, dislike or condone. I have been called a Newfie by friends and acquaintances, who have used it as a means of respect and endearment. I have listened to people tell jokes using the term Newfie or Newf and have laughed at some and have corrected others.
I like to believe, that at a job site, the term is used to indicate a newfoundlander who is a good worker.

Comment on the terms, Newfie, Newf, Newfy

I was born before confederation and I have never heard any of those words used in a degrading way towards me or my fellow Newfoundlanders. I like who I am and my Newfoundland roots. I am a Newfoundlander. I would have no hesitation, confronting a person, if I thought that they were using any of those words in a derogatory manner. Steve
