Fish and Chips was made popular in England. The basic menu is deep fried fish,
which has normally been cod fish and fries. The fish is deep fried in a batter. There are many variations of batter mixes.
I have tried fish
n chips in London in many places in Ontario and in my home province of Newfoundland Labrador. My wife and I thoroughly enjoy,
Ches's Fish and Chips as well as Scampers in St. John's NL.
Also we like the
cod bites from Jay Jays in Foxtrap and the delicious Fish N Chips meal we had at The Captain's Table Restaurant on the Southern Shore.
The Seaside Restaurant, in Chamberlains NL is not too shabby
either. We've had fish and chips, from their takeout menu a number of times, while home on vacation.
The best meal of fish n chips we had was at Jackie's Restaurant
and Take Out in Rocky Harbour NL. The batter was not too thick or greasy and the fish was mouth watering. The fish
was flaky and white. Our son, who has eaten fish in many parts of the world and has eaten at some high class restaurants said
"this is the best fish that i've ever eaten". It was simply delicious.
We moved to Ontario, for family health reasons in 2008 and have tried to find a
good meal of fish and chips. To date, we have not found a place that we would go back and re-order. Joey's, in Kanata
has pretty good fish but we found the cod fish salty and dry. I guess the problem is getting fresh cod fish.

7,2012. Ate at Lapointe's Seafood Grill in Bell's Corners, Ottawa. The price for a one piece fish and
chips with a pop was around $13.90. Gotta find the bill. Online banking is good, sometimes. Found my charge. Taxes and 20%
tip included in total.
The fish was good, however;
I got an aftertaste. It may be the beer batter. The batter was light and the size was acceptable. Small serving of fries but
they were homemade and tasted great. I will go back.

Margi's in Renfrew: On Oct 5th we decided to try Margi's
Restaurant which is located in downtown Renfrew. We had one of our grandsons with us and we were in a rush to get back home
so we ordered a takeout. They had English style and Newfoundland style. We ordered the Newfoundland style. They serve gravy,
onions and stuffing with the Newfoundland style. THe fish was good, however; the next time, we will order just the fish and
chips without the gravy, stuffing and onions. This restaurant is small with 6 or 7 tables squeezed into
the dining area. Nothing fancy.
Denver's, Kelligrews Newfoundland: We
returned to Newfoundland for a weeks holidays and ordered a meal of fish n chips for four people. It was a takeout order.
